The People for Parks Community Tool Trailer

If you’ve ever tried to organize a group to build a trail or landscape or plant trees in a local park or green space, then you know how difficult it can be to organize all of the specialized tools and supplies you need. Many groups would like to help improve our parks, but do not have the tools needed to successfully carry out these kinds of projects.

The People for Parks Community Tool Trailer is a trail-builder or landscaper’s dream! It is a portable hitch-trailer fully stocked with all of the tools—rakes, shovels, hoes, spades, post hole diggers, etc.—that you will need for park maintenance, landscaping, trail building, and other park enhancement projects. All you need is the people--if you’ve got the people, we’ll loan you the tools! The People for Parks Community Tool Trailer is available free of charge
to individuals or groups seeking to undertake park stewardship projects in Wake County.

Sure, I love parks, but what can I do?
Here are some ideas:

  • Get together a neighborhood group or garden club to plant trees or
landscape a flower bed in a neighborhood park
  • Organize a service project for a group of friends, coworkers, fellow
alumni, etc. to build a nature trail to celebrate National Trails Day
  • Help a local Scout troop or Eagle Scout install directional or
interpretive signage along a greenway trail
  • Gather a group of park supporters to help paint a bridge or park shelter
  • Assemble a group to add trees for shade, additional mulch for safety
surfacing, or a new swing set or other equipment to a favorite
    playground.

People for Parks will help you organize your project, lead you through
the official approval process and, if appropriate, help you build
community support and raise funds for your proposed park project.

I have an idea for a project!
What do I need to do to use the Community Tool Trailer?

  • Contact People for Parks at trailer@people4parks.org to find out which
local government agencies need to approve your project idea, what
information they will need and how to reach them.
  • Have a vehicle with hitch capable of towing a load of 3000 lbs.
  • Email trailer@people4parks.org to find out if the trailer is
    available for the date desired.
  • Fill out a Request for Use form and sign a waiver of liability
  • Pick up and return the trailer from its storage location.

The Community Tool Trailer is made possible through the generous support of the Progress Energy Foundation.
